Protest against the new Polyclinics
The government has ordered that every Primary Care Trust
in England should set up at least one new clinic, commonly
described in the press as 'polyclinics,' 'GP-led health
centres,' or 'Darzi clinics.'
The proposed clinic for Oxfordshire is in Banbury and
will offer services 7 days a week from 8.00 am - 8.00 pm.
The cost will be about £700,000 in the first year and
£1.1 million in second and subsequent years
GPs in Oxfordshire believe that the funding for the privately
owned clinic could be better spent on the health
needs of Oxfordshire patients. For example, the
money spent on the clinic could buy more than 1,000
cataract operations or 140 hip operations.
If you would like to express your views on this, we have a
ballot form available in the surgery which we will forward
to the Local Medical Committee to help GPs protest
against these expensive clinics. Please ask at reception.
Saturday morning surgeries
From June 7th we will be offering a surgery on Saturday mornings from 08.10
-10.15. The majority of the Saturday appointments will be pre-bookable with a very small number being reserved for 'walk-ins' on the day. Once these appointments have been used, patients will be advised to contact the out-of-hours service if they consider that they need medical attention over the weekend.
The surgery will be staffed by one GP and a receptionist. The services offered during the extended hours surgeries will be limited to the GP. There will be no service from the treatment room, phlebotomist, dispensary or
hospital.
A good move
From 5th June the
CHILD HEALTH CLINIC
Will be held in Sonning Common Village Hall
(next to Somerfield)
From 1.30 pm until 3.00 pm
on Thursdays
(the clinic will be closed on 3rd July)
The clinic has been moved to the village hall because parents, grandparents, carers and staff have all expressed concern that it has become too busy and crowded when held in the health centre waiting room. We aim to have two members of the health visiting team and at least one volunteer in clinic each week. We will have more space to display and share health promotional and useful information and perhaps invite monthly guests. We hope that you will appreciate that it may take some time to make the new venue work well. WE WOULD REALLY VALUE YOUR COMMENTS and IDEAS because we would like to make the clinic valuable for you and your children's health. Please pass your comments in writing to the clinic, and include your name if you think it would be helpful, to discuss your ideas.

Ears why not . . . .
Doctors warn patients never to poke anything in their ears to
"clean" them. Here is an illustration of why not:
